Summary: Don't use Blogger for your affiliate marketing blog. They own your site and can pull the plug and shut your website down without warning. Just like they did to me - TWICE!
I'm an idiot.
After Blogger threw my 1st affiliate blog into the garbage, I went a head and spent another couple of months building another.
That one got trashed too.
No warnings, no apologies, no proof they ever existed.
How'd this happen?
Simple. Blogspot.com is a domain name that's owned by Blogger and all of their blogs will have that domain name, but a different "first name" like myblog.Blogspot.com or myotherblog.Blogspot.com.
Blogspot.com is the Blogger network of blogs.
Blogger "owns" every blog that is running on the Blogspot.com network. EVERY blog with blogspot.com in the domain name must follow Blogger's strict codes of conduct of it's in danger of being ripped down at any moment.
My first site was simple. I used Blogger to build a site that was focused on getting a free Xbox 360 from FreePay.com.
Luckily, it took Blogger a while to find me before they erased the website. I was pretty much done with it and was ready to move on to my next website.
I thought "Maybe they shut me down because I hadn't written a new post in a while..."
I was wrong.
So I began building the second blog. This time it was a straight up money maker. Affiliate marketing all the way!
All kinds of advertising - Google Adsense Ads, banner ads from Commission Junction and lots of sweet, little promos for ebooks for sale through ClickBank.
It was very keyword focused and I spent lots of time researching, writing effective sales copy and improving on it's search engine optimization.
Finally, I started gaining traffic and making a few bucks when...
BAM!
It was gone. Like the Dodo bird... completely extinct.
That's the honest truth. One day I woke up and the entire site was gone. In fact, they didn't even send me an email AFTER they had deleted the entire thing.
Months of work (and my first money making affiliate blog) vanished without a trace in a split second.
That hurt. I was one pissed off guy for a long time.
Now, I'm sure that I was doing something they didn't like and that's why they did it. But, like the thousands of other people who use Blogger, I didn't read the terms and conditions.
Maybe all this could have been avoided if I would have done my homework and really took the time to understand what was allowed and what wasn't... Either way, I was so ticked off that I still haven't gone back to Blogger and I will never go there again.
The good news is that I eventually got over the shock of losing two sites... And I started looking into setting up my own domain name and website hosting for my affiliate websites. (That's the only way YOU can decide when to throw your blog in the garbage.)
Now, I've got 100% CONFIDENCE that my blog will be there when I wake up tomorrow morning -- and that's the best feeling an affiliate marketing blogger can have! Trust me.
So if you're looking to build the next super affiliate marketing blog, don't waste your time with Blogger.
It's not worth the risk of losing everything you've worked so hard to build.
For my blog today, I use a hosting company called MediaTemple and a blogging software named WordPress.
MediaTemple is where I can purchase any domain name I want (like KILLER-BLOG.COM) and I can install WordPress by clicking 1 button. It's part of MediaTemple's "1 Click Applications" where they do all the work and just I press one little button :) See image below:
They're best affiliate marketing website hosting company because it's rock solid and easy to use. (What's easier than 1 click?)
Unfortunately, MediaTemple is on the expensive side at $20/month...
But if you're just getting your blogs affiliate marketing started, checkout HostMonster. They've got WordPress too and it's a steal at $6.95 per month. Plus you'll get a free domain name for life! Here's a pic of the HostMonster website... You'll love it.
The moral of this story is to keep your affiliate marketing away from Blogger.
Get your own domain name, use HostMonster or MediaTemple for hosting, use WordPress for blogging and sleep well because your blog will be safe and secure for as long as you want.
Good luck building your super affiliate blog,
